As I am reading all the opinion letters from the good people of Rainbow Springs regarding their recent water issues with the city of Dunnellon, I can feel the anger and frustration; however, it saddens me that part of the retribution for some, would be to boycott shopping in Dunnellon.
In this economy, to punish the businesses of Dunnellon for a decision that was out of their control, put simply, is just wrong.
The small business owners in Dunnellon work hard to make Dunnellon a wonderful place to live and shop.
Let’s not forget they also sponsor wonderful events such as, Jazz Up Dunnellon, Boomtown Days, the Queen of the Rainbow Pageant, Little Miss and Mr. Dunnellon, Special Olympics, the Christmas Parade and Relay for Life. I could go on and on.
My point is, even in today’s economy, the Dunnellon businesses dig deep in their pockets to give generously and help make these events happen. Without them it would not be possible. A lot of them are Mom and Pop operations owned by local families.
I am asking you to refocus your position on boycotting the stores in Dunnellon.
Dunnellon is a great place to shop and dine. It is full of warm, caring businesses, and should not be made a target for retribution.
