  • REGIONAL BOUND

HOMOSASSA — Dunnellon junior Ryan Molloy fired an 89 at the District 1A-8 boys golf tournament on Monday to qualify for next Monday’s regional tournament at Golden Hills Golf & Turf Club in Ocala.
“It feels great to be able to move on and represent Dunnellon High School at regional,” Molloy said. “I feel like I’m going to do well and have a chance to move on (to state).”

  • Tigers aim to get back on track...

For the better part of two weeks now, the Dunnellon High School football team has had to deal with the fallout of its performance against Santa Fe in a key District 5A-5 tilt.
In the game, Oct. 7, the Tigers turned the ball over five times, including three in the fourth quarter of a 21-7 loss. The loss snapped Dunnellon’s 15-game district winning streak, putting the Tigers behind “the eight ball” in their bid to reach the playoffs.

  • Peak performers

Prior to the start of the season, first-year coach Roger Sibbald wasn’t sure what to expect from his team.
His goals were for his team to improve throughout the season and peak at the right time.
So far, that appears to the case, especially with Ryan Molloy and Bryce Thalacker leading the charge for the Tigers as of late.
Molloy had perhaps his best two outings of the season two weeks ago against Forest, West Port and St. John. The junior fired a pair of back-to-back 4-over-par 40s in the two meets, winning medalist honors at both matches.

The 2011 Dunnellon High School cross country has a lot of new runners this season.
Coming out for the first time are Natalie Cote, Charles Cross, Daniel Pastore and Dillon Lamb. The year will be very interesting on seeing who shines the brightest and who has the biggest improvements, coaches Valerie Bazarte and Tracy Young explained. Both were not sure how things would go this season, but Dunnellon’s meet Sept. 27 at Belleview left them surprised with the level of new talent they have.
On Sept. 27, at Belleview, Victor was the victor.

BROOKSVILLE — The Dunnellon High School junior varsity football team swam past the Nature Coast Sharks on Wednesday, Oct. 5, posting a 22-7 victory, its third win of the season.
“The first half was a little rough,” Dunnellon coach Archie Smith said. “But when the second half came around, we pulled it together and played the game we know.”
The Tigers’ Brandon Smith took the opening kickoff to the 46-yard line. But Dunnellon struggled moving the ball in the first quarter; however, the Sharks found it tough going against the Dunnellon defense.

  • Keeping it moving

It never seems to be easy for the Dunnellon High School football team.
That’s especially true for this week when the Tigers line up against perennial state power South Sumter. And though the Raiders have been down the past few seasons, they’re certainly making their traditional mark in the central Florida prep circles.

  • Dunnellon runs roughsod over...

Dunnellon coach Frank Beasley knew it was only a matter of time before his offense started clicking.
Friday night at Ned Love Field, the Tigers picked the right time to start hitting on all cylinders as senior running back Wesley Beasley scored three times, including two second-half touchdown runs at Ned Love Stadium, leading Dunnellon to a 28-16 victory against Gainesville Eastside.
