• Keeping customers shopping in a slow economy can be a challenge for many businesses.

    But not for Nancy Myers.

    Myers, who owns Grumbles House, has not really seen a decline at her store. Overall, she said her shop does not have a lot of large ticket items and said people like to stop by and purchase a “little something.”

    In addition to having low prices on many items, Myers said she recently marked a lot of merchandise down.

    The public is invited: On Friday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. in the country club the monthly seminars resume with both Patti Keller speaking on diabetes awareness and Kelly Niblett speaking on diabetic diets. Mike Florey will also speak about health care and the U.S. Constitution. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16 and 17, are the dates for the community yard sale.     SHARE, an acronym for Self-Help-And-Resource-Exchange, is a private, not-for-profit organization that strengthens and builds communities through volunteer service and offers participants great savings on food. There are no income requirements.  

    SHARE Registration / Sign-Up is at Peace Lutheran Church, Thursday, July 15, and Saturday, July 17, from 9 to 11a.m.. Distribution / Pick-Up Day is Saturday, July 31, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

    Because of the fire in the Hospital Building there will not be a flea market, which was sponsored by the Garden Club. The flea market was scheduled to be held on April 18.

    The Rainbow Lakes Garden Club will have its meeting on Thursday, April 16 in the Community Center at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

    The Rainbow Lakes Advisory Committee meeting will be April 16 at 7 p.m. in the clubhouse. Come out and support these dedicated volunteers.

    The Annie W. Johnson Senior & Family Service Center is planning for April 1 - April 14, a "bogo food drive" -buy one - give one ! We are asking anyone who participates in this event that all food items can be dropped off at any of the locations listed: Myriam’s Restaurant, Charlie Horse Restaurant, Pavarotti’s Pizza, Superior Bank, Dunnellon Police Station. The community support towards this event is greatly appreciated.

    The Church of the Advent is having a Fashion Show and Luncheon on May 1 at noon. Fashions will be by Belk. Tickets are required and donation is $10 per person, which includes lunch.
